How Do You Know It Was God? 🤔
John 1:18 says, ‘No one has ever seen God.’ Yet people constantly say, ‘God told me to do this.’ So my question is: if you’ve never seen Him, how do you know it was God speaking and not your own thoughts?

Understanding whether a message or feeling truly comes from God or our own mind is a profound spiritual challenge many believers face. Since, as John 1:18 points out, no one has ever seen God directly, our interactions with the divine often depend on faith and personal discernment. In my own experience, I’ve found that recognizing God’s voice often comes down to a few key indicators. Firstly, the message usually aligns with the character and teachings of God as revealed in the Bible. It resonates with love, truth, and wisdom rather than fear or confusion. Secondly, there can be a sense of peace and clarity that accompanies these moments, even if the direction is challenging. On the other hand, confusing or contradictory thoughts often bring unease or doubt. Prayer and meditation on scripture help cultivate the ability to discern. When I am uncertain whether an impression is from God or just my own thoughts, I spend time seeking guidance through prayer and study. God’s voice is often gentle and patient, not rushed or forceful. Community also plays a vital role. Sharing doubts and experiences with trusted fellow believers can provide perspective and confirmation. The Holy Spirit working through the body of Christ often helps clarify uncertain feelings. Ultimately, this journey requires humility and openness to God’s timing and method of communication. While it may not always be clear instantly, over time, consistent alignment with God’s nature and outcomes that produce love and growth strongly suggest the voice of God rather than mere internal musings.
God says in the Bible, test all spirits. Not all spirits are from God. When we say God told us something, generally and by far, we are not saying we actually hear an audible voice; however, there are exceptions. If the voice says anything contrary to what is said in the Bible, then it’s not God. This is why it’s important to study and know the Bible. Question to you, author. How does one get to know someone you cannot see and cannot hear? Answer: Read everything they ever wrote. I think that point is self explanatory.
