Come get ready with me for clinical today! I got up a little earlier today so decided to throw on some makeup and have a cup of coffee! Usually I wake up and get ready and take everything to go and just swipe on some mascara and lip gloss and call it good.😂

I’m talking about a robust blend, something like a Starbucks Fall International Blend, to truly kickstart my brain. It’s not just about the caffeine; it’s the ritual of savoring that warmth, even for just a few minutes, that helps me mentally prepare for the day ahead. Sometimes I even mix in a sugar-free delight to make it extra special. It's my little moment of calm before the controlled chaos of the hospital floor. Beyond the physical 'getting ready,' a huge part of being truly prepared for clinicals is tackling those infamous care plans. I’ve learned that the best way to approach them is to start the night before, if possible. Reviewing your patient assignments, understanding their diagnoses, medications, and the interventions you might perform is key. I always try to identify potential nursing diagnoses and think through possible interventions beforehand. It's like a mental rehearsal! This preparation helps you walk onto the floor feeling more confident, knowing you’re ready to contribute meaningfully to your patient’s care, not just scrambling for information. Thinking about how you’ll apply what you’ve learned in class to a real patient scenario makes all the difference. Speaking of preparing for clinicals, it’s not just about the academic side. I always make a mental checklist: stethoscope, penlight, sharpie, small notebook, and don't forget a few healthy snacks! Long shifts mean you need to stay fueled. And hydration is a big one – I always have my water bottle. It's amazing how much more focused you can be when you’re not thinking about being thirsty or hungry. Also, comfortable shoes are a non-negotiable! You'll be on your feet for hours, so invest in good footwear. And let’s talk about the clinical 'shirt' – your uniform! While comfort is paramount, professionalism is equally important. I always make sure my scrubs are clean, wrinkle-free, and fit well. A well-fitting nursing top, often referred to as a scrub 'shirt', can make a huge difference in how you feel and present yourself. I personally look for scrubs that have good pocket space for all my essentials, and are made from breathable, flexible fabric. There's nothing worse than feeling restricted or uncomfortable when you're trying to perform patient care. A little trick I’ve picked up is to lay out my uniform the night before – it saves so much time during those early mornings. Also, don't forget to check your facility's dress code; some places have specific colors or styles required. A clean, professional appearance shows respect for your patients and your colleagues. Even on early mornings, a quick makeup routine helps me feel put-together. After my coffee, I quickly apply some Olay Advanced Vitamin C + Peptide24 Hydrating Moisturizer to get my skin ready.
