Steal my notes!
Just started the cardiac unit in my nursing class and boy is it a lot of information! Big tip with learning dysfunctions of certain organs and parts of the body is to go back to the basics of the organ! You can’t understand what is going wrong if you don’t remember how it works properly! So take some time and go back to the foundations and remember that A&P I’m sure we all crawled through at point 😂
Understanding the cardiovascular system is crucial for nursing students. The heart's primary function is to pump oxygenated blood to tissues while returning deoxygenated blood to the lungs. Key components include arteries, veins, and capillaries—all integral to circulation. The arteries carry oxygen-rich blood, and the veins transport deoxygenated blood back to the heart. Capillaries function as the exchange sites where oxygen and nutrients are delivered to tissues, and waste products are removed. The heart is a hollow, fist-sized organ protected by the pericardium, which consists of two layers and a lubricating cavity. Familiarizing yourself with the thick myocardium and the thinner epicardium and endocardium helps build a solid foundation in cardiac anatomy. Additionally, understanding concepts like cardiac output—affected by factors such as exercise and rest—will further enhance your learning experience. Remember, revisiting foundational concepts in anatomy and physiology is essential. Not only does it help in understanding how the heart functions, but it also serves as a guide when studying dysfunctions. Engaging with classmates and utilizing notes effectively can also facilitate your learning journey in nursing.
