Testing for children’s sensory issues pt 3

Most parents are told everything is “normal”…

But what if there’s something deeper going on?

The OAT test looks at brain chemistry + the gut-brain connection — things that can impact how your child:

• communication

• regulating emotions

• focus

• sleep

If your child struggles with:

✨ sensory sensitivities

✨ speech or language delays

✨ hyperactivity or poor focus

✨ mood swings or emotional outbursts

…it might be worth looking deeper.

These markers don’t diagnose but they can give clues about what your child’s body might need support with.

You’re not crazy for questioning things.

You’re paying attention ❤️

These are my sons test results in the post. Have you ever heard of the OAT test before? Check out part one to understand page one of the results

#sensoryissues #autisticspectrumdisorder #kidshealthmatters #developmental

... Read moreFrom my personal experience navigating my child's sensory and emotional challenges, delving into the OAT (Organic Acids Test) was truly eye-opening. The test highlights the complex link between brain chemistry and gut health, offering clues that traditional assessments often miss. For instance, my child suffered from sensory sensitivities like being overwhelmed by sounds and textures, frequent mood swings, and poor sleep — symptoms that didn’t show clear reasons through usual pediatric evaluations. The OAT test examines markers such as oxalates in the gut, glycolytic cycle metabolites, and mitochondrial function, all of which provide a window into how a child’s body processes energy and manages inflammation and oxidative stress. Even though the results might flag 'within range' values, patterns from these markers can reveal subtle imbalances causing discomfort and behavioral challenges. Specifically, oxalates can irritate the nervous system, contributing to sensory overload, digestive issues, and mood instability. Mitochondrial markers inform us about potential low energy levels and brain fog tied to the cell’s powerhouses malfunctioning. Understanding these connections helped me work with nutritionists and healthcare providers to tailor dietary changes and supplements aimed at reducing oxalate intake and supporting mitochondrial health. Another important insight is that sensory and emotional regulation issues are rarely isolated; they often stem from underlying biochemical imbalances that affect communication, focus, and sleep. Recognizing this encouraged me not to settle for 'everything is normal' responses but to seek deeper evaluation and support. If your child shows signs like hyperactivity, mood swings, or speech delays, exploring tests like the OAT could provide valuable guidance. It’s empowering to listen to your instincts and find answers that lead to meaningful improvements in your child's wellbeing and daily life. Supporting children with sensory issues requires patience, but uncovering underlying health factors can change the whole trajectory for growth and comfort.
