Giving your intellect to God

I was literally struggling this morning to find the words during my time in prayer. Frustration begin to set and I started to feel like I can’t do this. I know what I was carrying and that it needed to be laid at the feet of Jesus but the words didn’t flow from my heart. Who knew that the battle in our minds will block the flow of the Holy Spirit when it’s all over the place. This devotional reading is a reminder that we must ask God to teach us how to pray and turn our minds off so we can yield to his spirit. Amen #prayerlife #praying🙏 #godaligned #readingmybible

When you start your prayer, instead of allowing distractions or frustrations to dominate your thoughts, try consciously inviting God to take control of your mind. For example, a helpful practice is to begin with a simple prayer like, “Lord, teach me how to pray,” just as Jesus’ disciples did in Luke 11:1. I once struggled deeply during prayer, feeling overwhelmed by unresolved worries and unable to express what was on my heart. It felt like my mind was a battlefield, preventing the peace and flow from the Holy Spirit. Over time, I realized that this internal conflict was natural but could be managed by intentionally redirecting my thoughts toward God’s presence and relinquishing control. One practical tip is to focus on specific requests or praises, grounding your mind on what you know about God’s character and past faithfulness. Remind yourself of answered prayers and God’s promises to build confidence in your communication with Him. Journaling during or after prayer also helps me clear mental clutter. Remember, true praying involves a mental step where the intellect is fully surrendered—this isn’t about emptying the mind but about aligning thoughts with God’s will. It’s okay to struggle; what matters is persistence and inviting God to guide your intellect. This journey not only deepens your prayer life but fosters spiritual growth as you become more god-aligned and receptive to His Spirit. Incorporating scripture readings and meditations during prayer times further enhances this practice. For instance, meditating on Luke 11:1 reminds us of the disciples’ humility and their earnest desire to learn effective prayer. Yielding your intellect to God transforms prayer from a frustrating obligation into a powerful, intimate dialogue that enriches your faith.
