M1 vs Gomo vs Eight, which line is better?

Disclaimer: This is mainly my experience as a user of these three mobile plan service providers (M1, Singtel & Starhub). Do not judge entirely based on my experience and do up research before buying or porting over.

1. M1 & Bespoke Contract Plan - $80+/month

I’ve been a long time user for M1 and their plan, Bespoke contract plan. As you know M1 does charge for numbers that you do not really know or use, so you can say its rather a hit or miss to be buying their product with a plan, because of GST and other reasonings like out-of-bundle data, overusing of data and etc. The only reason I have been a long time user is because my family have a line under my mother’s name so we can just use her number to put under our contracts as well as the wifi services by M1. All I can say is the experience was not positive, the data service was alright, but it does have their own down times as well but the last contract I had with M1, I settled with a Samsung Galaxy Flip Phone and it got spoilt way before the 2 years contract was up and it was rather unsettling because I am not the type of person that heads down to talk face to face so I just continued paying the bills till my contract officially ended and terminate the line with M1. I remembered the day I called over to cancel my line with them via the customer service and they were asking questions like ‘why do you want to cancel your line?’ ‘do you know that once you cancel the line with us, you would not have any line under M1 anymore’. It was abit funny because when I mentioned how I am trying to save more money but they were trying to promote their cheapest plan to me, but the reason for calling is that I want to cancel my line under your service.. but thankfully it got cancelled eventually after the long fight with Q&As.. I’ve seen many negative experiences online which had it harder than me, I am definitely thankful for going through a slightly better experience than them, would be even better if I went down and explain about my phone spoilt and terminate my contract then.

2. Gomo (Singtel) - $19.99/month without GST

Felt free after the tied down contract basis, decided to try out Gomo under Singtel after much research. Experience was definitely easier and better due to contract free basis, auto-renewal process, easy interface to navigate for their app. However, have been experiencing some sort of down time with the mobile data, thinking maybe its just once in a few times sort of thing but ended up becoming a daily basis thing. My workplace isnt in the remote venue but the connectivity has been really bad, it takes very long to load videos or send out messages… Imagine paying to $21 inclusive of GST to get such bad mobile data services when its already the most advance mobile service of 5G… so horrible but I would say probably slightly better than circles.life and probably MyRepublic.

Rating /⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐: ⭐️⭐️

3. Eight - $10.80/month (5G coverage)

Recently only ported over from Gomo, cannot say much about this but so far my experience has been alright and heard many people using this brand of mobile service provider and their experiences have been quite positive. Decided to try the 5G coverage first mainly wanting to know how good Starhub mobile data coverage is, if experience is good will consider downgrading to the 4G coverage ($8/month) to save even more money. The only reason for the porting over was to really save money, from $21 to $10.80 per month is definitely a steal, plus the GB for mobile data is about ~528GB, how to even use finish?! And at this point of time, I am unable to comment much about this mobile service provider hence no rating will be done.

- WILL NOT RATE DUE TO RECENT PORT OVER -

... Read moreHaving used multiple mobile service providers in Singapore, I can share some additional insights that might help you in deciding between M1, Gomo, and Eight. One of the deciding factors for many users is the balance between cost and data allowance. M1’s Bespoke contract plan, although expensive at $80+ per month, bundles additional services and hardware financing, which might appeal to those wanting a comprehensive package. However, hidden costs like GST, out-of-bundle charges, and limited flexibility can offset the benefits for typical users with moderate needs. Gomo by Singtel positions itself as a budget-friendly alternative with a $19.99 monthly plan that is contract-free, allowing users to change or cancel anytime without penalties. This flexibility is a big plus for people who don’t want to be locked into long contracts. The drawback, as I’ve experienced and many others report, is intermittent data downtime, especially in areas where even 5G coverage is patchy. For those heavily depending on consistent connectivity for remote work or streaming, this might be a dealbreaker. Eight, operating under Starhub, is the newest player offering an incredibly low monthly fee of $10.80 for 5G coverage and a massive data quota (~528GB). This plan is highly attractive for heavy data users or those looking to save significantly. While the network is promising, especially as it utilizes Starhub's infrastructure, it’s still relatively new, and long-term reliability and service quality reviews are still emerging. From a practical standpoint, I advise prospective users to consider not just the headline price but also the realities of customer service responsiveness, service stability, device support, and any additional fees (like GST). For instance, my own experience with customer service at M1 was challenging and highlights the importance of ease in managing your account and support interactions. In addition, one should evaluate their typical data usage and preferred contract type. If you want no strings attached, Gomo’s model is appealing, but if maximum data at minimal cost is your goal, Eight might be the way to go. Lastly, established networks like M1 have extensive coverage and additional service options but may not always justify their higher price for average users. Ultimately, before porting or purchasing, it’s crucial to try out the provider’s SIM card if possible, read recent user reviews regarding coverage in your areas, and factor in the customer service experience. Making an informed choice based on both data needs and service quality will ensure you get the best value and avoid unforeseen issues like connectivity hiccups or billing complications.
