Commission!

... Read moreYou know, when I first started exploring the art world, I didn't even realize how many incredible ways there are to bring someone's unique vision to life through art commissions. Finishing my latest Pokémon piece, a custom design featuring the ice-type legendary Koi-Yu, really got me thinking about all the different avenues artists can take to create something truly special. So, what exactly are art commissions, and why are they becoming so popular? Essentially, an art commission is a bespoke piece of art created specifically for a client based on their request. It's a wonderful way to get something truly unique and personal, whether it's a beloved pet portrait, an original character for a story, or even a fantastical landscape you've always dreamed of. For artists like me, it's a fantastic opportunity to challenge our skills, explore new ideas, and connect directly with people who appreciate our unique style and vision. Let's dive into some of the most common types of art commissions I've encountered and even worked on. One massive category is character art. This can range from original characters (OCs) for role-playing games or fan fiction to fan art of existing characters – just like my recent Koi-Yu piece! People absolutely adore seeing their favorite heroes, or their own invented personas, brought to life in a unique artistic style. Then there are pet portraits, which are always incredibly heartwarming. Capturing the unique personality of a furry, scaly, or feathered friend is immensely rewarding. Another very popular type is concept art or creature design. This is where artists get to unleash their wildest imaginations, often for game developers, authors, or film projects that need visuals for their evolving worlds. Imagine bringing a completely new Pokémon-like creature, perhaps even a never-before-seen variant of Koi-Yu, into existence! Landscape or architectural commissions are also highly sought after, especially for capturing sentimental places, dream homes, or creating imaginary vistas that transport you to another realm. And of course, there are abstract commissions for those who desire a unique piece that evokes a certain mood, color scheme, or aesthetic for their home or office. Within these broader categories, you also have commissions based on the medium. Digital art commissions (like the one I just completed) are incredibly versatile, allowing for easy revisions, quick turnaround, and convenient digital delivery. Traditional art commissions, on the other hand, might involve painting, drawing, or sculpting, offering a unique tactile quality and often a one-of-a-kind physical art piece. The beauty of the commission world truly lies in its incredible variety and the endless possibilities! So, if you're feeling inspired and want to commission an artist yourself, how do you even get started? From my experience, the best first step is to find an artist whose style you absolutely adore. Spend some time browsing portfolios on platforms like Lemon8 or social media. Once you find someone whose work resonates with you, reach out with a clear, yet flexible, idea of what you're looking for. Be ready to discuss details like the subject matter, composition, desired mood, and, importantly, your budget. Most professional artists will have a clear pricing structure, often based on complexity, size, and the chosen medium. Don't be afraid to ask questions! A good artist will communicate openly about their process, from initial sketches and concepts to final delivery. For me, every commission is a learning experience and a joy. It's not just about the act of creating; it's about translating someone else's vision into my artistic language and making a connection through art. It's incredibly satisfying to witness a client's excitement and gratitude when they receive their finished piece. Whether it's a simple character sketch or a detailed scene, knowing that my art brings joy and fulfills a personal dream is what truly makes it all worthwhile. If you've been contemplating getting a custom piece, I highly recommend exploring the vast and vibrant world of art commissions – you might just find the perfect artist to create something magical and meaningful for you!

commission advice
I don't give much advice on things unless someone asks me so here it is. there a lot that actually goes into commission like how much to charge and what you make, also depends on time and stuff. the only way I can give better advice to people is knowing how long and what they do but for now
