Glimmers are the opposite of triggers✨

Glimmers are tiny moments of awe.

They spark joy & evoke inner calm.

They have a positive effect on our mental health.

They are micro-moments causing tiny mood shifts.

They send cues of safety to our nervous system.

They allow us to feel hope when lost.

Our nervous system is strengthened by them.

They can help increase our well-being.

Once we start embracing them, they become a beautiful way to see the world around us.

Have you heard of the term "glimmers" before now? What's one of your most recent glimmers?

... Read moreIt's been such a revelation for me to truly understand 'glimmers' and how they can profoundly impact our daily lives. Before, I often focused on avoiding 'triggers,' which is important, but I didn't realize there was an entire opposite world waiting to be explored – those 'micro-moments of joy, happiness, peace, or gratitude' that are all around us. I used to rush through my days, barely noticing anything beyond my to-do list. But once I started actively looking for glimmers, my perspective totally shifted. So, what exactly are these magical 'glimmer moments'? They're not grand events, but rather tiny, fleeting instances that bring a sense of calm, connection, or safety. For instance, it could be the way the light hits a 'wet road at sunset,' making everything glow, or seeing the distinct shape of a 'bright moon' partially hidden by clouds on a walk home. Sometimes, it's as simple as observing new 'plant sprouts' pushing through soil, a small sign of life and growth, or even enjoying a perfectly crafted meal, like a delicious 'sushi' roll, savoring each bite. These 'small moments of connection or regulation that cue safety and calm' are everywhere once you start tuning in. Finding your glimmers is simpler than you might think. It's about cultivating a sense of mindful awareness. Try taking a few deep breaths and consciously engaging your senses throughout your day. What do you see, hear, smell, taste, or feel that brings a tiny spark of happiness or peace? Is it the warmth of your coffee cup, the sound of birds chirping, the scent of rain, or a genuine smile from a stranger? Each of these can be a glimmer. It's about allowing yourself to feel that brief moment of awe and letting it register with your nervous system as a cue of safety. One of the most powerful ways I've learned to integrate glimmers into my life is through a 'glimmers journal.' This isn't about lengthy entries, but rather quick notes that help you reflect on these small moments that bring you joy, safety, and connection. At the end of each day, or whenever a glimmer strikes me, I jot down: The Date & Time: When did it happen? The Glimmer: What exactly did I experience? (e.g., "Saw a beautiful rainbow after the rain," "Felt the sun on my face during my walk," "Heard my favorite song unexpectedly"). How it Made Me Feel: Describe the emotions – calm, happy, grateful, peaceful, connected. Sensory Details: What did I see, hear, smell, taste, or feel? Keeping a glimmer journal helps reinforce these positive experiences and strengthens my ability to notice them more frequently. It's like training my brain to seek out the good, which has dramatically increased my overall well-being and resilience. It's a beautiful practice that helps you realize just how much beauty and peace are available, even on the toughest days. I truly encourage you to start looking for your glimmers today. It's a simple yet profound way to boost your mental health and find more hope and joy in the everyday. What's one glimmer you've noticed recently, or one you hope to find?
