The Outfit Was Never the Problem. They Were. Yes, They.

I was 4 years old, I was 10 years old, and I was 15. There was no outfit, no behavior, no excuse that could ever justify abuse against a child. A four year old CHILD is never asking for attention, never responsible, and never to blame. The fault will always belong to the adult(s) who chose to harm instead of protect. #awareness #traumahealing #cptsd #sa

5/13 Edited to

... Read moreReflecting on my own experiences, I can truly say that no outfit, age, or behavior of a child ever invites harm. From a very young age, any abuse I endured was never linked to what I wore or how I acted; it was a failure of protection by adults who should have cared for me. Society too often shifts blame onto victims, suggesting they 'asked for it' through their appearance or actions. This mindset adds layers of trauma and shame that make healing even harder. Healing from such deep wounds involves acknowledging that the blame lies solely with the abuser, not the child. For those of us affected, connecting with communities focused on #awareness, #traumahealing, and #cptsd has been vital. It’s encouraging to see these conversations gain traction online and beyond because they validate survivors’ feelings and experiences. There’s strength in sharing stories and reclaiming our voices. While the path to recovery is personal and nonlinear, many find therapy, peer support, and self-care practices essential. Recognizing triggers, understanding trauma responses, and building resilience take time, but they are possible. Above all, it’s crucial to reject harmful myths that suggest a child’s outfit or behavior can ever justify abuse. The focus must always be on protecting children and holding abusers accountable. This awareness can inspire individuals and communities to foster safer, more empathetic environments for children everywhere, promoting healing and hope.

Seven children, including the narrator identified in the top right, pose in swimwear by a pool. The text states, "THAT'S ME IN THE TOP RIGHT - STILL THINKING THIS WOULD BE THE FAMILY I DESERVED."
A collage of four childhood photos, including girls in swimsuits, a girl with a man, and children eating. The overlaying text reads, "WE WERE JUST KIDS."
They wanted a check - Not a child.
I was adopted when I was 3. Fostered before that, since I was 2. And from the outside, it probably looked like I got lucky. We had nice clothes. Took family trips. Had birthday parties every year. But deep down, I always felt like I didn’t really belong. Like I was there… but not wanted.

5 ways they make you doubt your own mind

Why Is Everyone So Pressed About Brad’s Outfit?
Okay—apparently I live under a rock because I didn’t even know Gigi Hadid and Bradley Cooper were a thing?? Anyway, they were spotted out to dinner with Brad Pitt and Ines de Ramon, and somehow the entire internet spiraled over Brad’s outfit. And listen… I get it. It was definitely not his usual vi
