Marriage after trauma teaches you so much 💕
A strong marriage isn’t always soft or easy, especially after extensive trauma. Childhood trauma and life experiences can shape so much of how we move through life and relationships. What I’m grateful for is that my husband has stayed in my corner through it all. He gets angry on my behalf when I’ve been hurt, celebrates my victories no matter how small, and consistently shows up to support me in the ways I need most. This isn’t always soft and over the years I’ve learned love comes in many forms but real love is consistent. #relationships #marriage #trauma #cptsd
Navigating marriage after experiencing childhood trauma has truly reshaped my understanding of love and commitment. One thing I've realized is that trauma doesn't just linger in our past; it actively influences how we perceive ourselves and connect with others. It's common for those of us who grew up in difficult environments to unconsciously seek partners who mirror those early experiences, sometimes unknowingly recreating patterns that are hard to break. My husband has been my unwavering supporter for almost eleven years, and his persistence in standing by me during the hardest parts of my healing journey has shown me the power of consistent love. When he's upset about my past or feels frustrated on my behalf, it reminds me that true partnership means more than just sharing joy—it means advocating for each other even when it’s uncomfortable or painful. Healing from trauma often requires patience and acceptance that love isn't always easy or gentle. It's about showing up consistently, celebrating every small victory, and sometimes facing anger or grief together. This process has taught me love exists in many forms, and real love persists through vulnerability and struggle. For anyone going through a similar path, remember that your experience shapes your marriage, but it doesn't have to define it. With open communication and mutual support, couples can create new narratives that honor both past challenges and future hopes. If your partner stands by your side through tough times, that’s a powerful foundation to grow a resilient relationship that fosters healing and deeper connection over time.
