Summer hair

... Read moreSummer is a wonderful time to experiment with different natural hairstyles, especially for those with 4C hair textures. I’ve found that twist outs are perfect for enhancing curl definition while still maintaining moisture throughout the hotter months. They offer a balance between style and manageability, which is essential for summer’s humidity. Afros are a classic look that not only celebrate natural hair but also keep your scalp cool and protected from the sun. Wearing an afro allows your hair to breathe without the need for heat styling, which can cause additional dryness during summer. Pairing it with a stylish headwrap or wide-brimmed hat adds both flair and sun protection. Ponytails are another quick and easy style for summer; they keep hair off the neck and face, helping you stay cool and comfortable. Using sturdy but gentle hair ties prevents breakage and keeps your edges healthy. Although I love these protective and low-maintenance styles, I definitely miss my silk presses in the summer. A silk press can give your hair that sleek, polished finish without chemical treatments, making it perfect for special occasions or when you want a break from curly styles. However, maintaining a silk press in humid weather can be challenging, as moisture causes the hair to revert. To make the most of your summer hairstyles, it's important to prioritize hair health. Regular deep conditioning treatments, sealing moisture with oils or butters, and protective styling all help in maintaining hair strength and shine. Additionally, protecting your hair from harsh sun exposure with scarves or UV-protectant sprays can prevent dryness and color fading. Lastly, reflecting on uplifting words like Psalm 136:1—"His love forever"—can remind us to love and care for ourselves, including embracing the beauty of our natural hair in all its forms throughout the seasons.
