Understanding the system underneath behavior—how emotional regulation, cognitive control, and environmental cues interact—changes the way you approach personal development. Rather than relying solely on willpower, which is a limited and fluctuating resource, building regulation skills offers a sustainable pathway to change. Practices such as mindfulness, deep breathing exercises, and grounding techniques help enhance regulation.
