Gratitude changes the posture of the heart.
When our hands are tightly clenched around control, fear, expectations, or comparison, it becomes hard to fully trust God. But thankfulness opens our hands. It reminds us that every good thing we have every blessing, every lesson, every breath has been held together by His grace.
Out on the ranch, open hands are necessary. You cannot tend the land while constantly gripping yesterday’s disappointments or tomorrow’s worries. There is peace in learning to receive each day as a gift from God.
Thankfulness is not ignoring hardship.
It is choosing to see God’s goodness in the middle of it.
A thankful heart says:
“Lord, I trust what You give.”
“I trust what You withhold.”
“And I trust that You are still good in every season.”
Gratitude softens anxiety.
It strengthens faith.
And it reminds us that we were never sustaining ourselves to begin with.
Today, open your hands to Him again.
There is peace in surrender and joy in remembering how faithful He has already been.

Faithfulness in the Field

Living with a grateful heart truly transforms everyday life, especially when faced with challenges. On the ranch, I’ve found that gratitude is not about ignoring difficulties but choosing to see God’s hand even in the hard moments. When you open your hands—symbolically releasing control, fear, and expectations—you invite peace and trust into your life. For me, gratitude acts as a powerful faith practice. It reminds me that every blessing, lesson, and breath comes through God’s grace. This mindset helps me focus on the present and receive each day as a gift rather than clinging to past disappointments or future uncertainties. Like tending the land, life requires an open, trusting posture to flourish. One personal experience that deepened my gratitude was during a tough season of drought on the ranch. Instead of succumbing to worry, I chose to give thanks for the small mercies: the quiet sunrise, the unexpected rain, and moments of calm. This shift in perspective softened my anxiety and strengthened my faith, reminding me that God’s goodness persists even when circumstances are tough. Scripture reminds us, "Give thanks to the Lord, for He is good" (Psalm 107:1). This verse encourages living with a heart that trusts what God gives and what He withholds. Every season carries His faithfulness, visible if we look with thankful eyes. Gratitude’s power lies in its ability to transform ordinary days into sacred ones. By embracing thankfulness regularly—not only in clear blessings but also in waiting and uncertainty—we cultivate peace and joy. It’s a daily surrender that enriches faith and nurtures the heart. So today, open your hands again, let go of control, and trust in the unchanging goodness that carries you through every season.
