Modesty is a choice
The concept of modesty is often referred to clothing but it ‘s a lifestyle! It is about living in such a way that all our actions, including the way we dress, point people to Jesus instead of ourselves. When God talks about modest dressing, He isn’t commanding us to cover up every inch. Instead, He is showing us to further glorify Him! God may not require modesty but does require obedience if He is Lord over your life then let Him be Lord!

The Bible's message on modesty isn't just about how much skin you show. It's about presenting ourselves in a way that honors God and respects ourselves as His creation. As this article highlights, "Modesty begins in the heart." It’s about cultivating a "meek and quiet spirit" (1 Peter 3:3-4) that shines through, influencing all our choices, including our clothing. For me, understanding "what is modest dressing according to the Bible" came down to asking: 'Does this glorify God?' and 'Does this draw attention to Him, or primarily to myself?' It’s not about legalism, but about conscious choices that reflect our reverence for God, because our bodies are indeed temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). In fact, I've found so much joy in discovering that 'skirts, dresses, loose clothing, wide pants' can be incredibly 'stylish' and elegant! The beautiful images I've seen, with women rocking chic, modest outfits, prove that you don't need to conform to secular trends to look amazing. It’s about choices that reflect our inner values, not restrictions. The overlay text on one image truly resonated with me: 'CLOTHES AND OUTWARD APPEARANCE ARE NOT WHERE WE GAIN OUR TRUE SIGNIFICANCE OR BEAUTY.' This perspective totally shifted my view from feeling confined to feeling empowered and truly free. The purpose of modesty is holiness, setting us apart. And guess what? This approach 'doesn't restrict us, it brings true life and real freedom!' While this article focuses broadly on biblical principles, the concept of modesty resonates across many Christian traditions. For example, 'Catholic modesty' also emphasizes humility, respect for the body, and purity in dress and conduct. The core message remains consistent: our outward appearance should reflect our inner devotion and reverence for God, regardless of specific denominational guidelines. It’s about aligning our choices with God's heart, embracing that our true significance and beauty come from glorifying Him in every aspect of our lives, from what we wear to how we live. It’s a journey, but one that leads to deep fulfillment.
