Coming soon to netflix…
Starting a new book AND audiobook on the same day... what a rush. Hoping to finish My Oxford Year for Friday before I watch the movie on Netflix 🤞🏼🤞🏼
Okay, so you caught me! I'm completely swept up in the pre-Netflix movie frenzy for 'My Oxford Year.' There's just something incredibly special about diving into a book before its screen adaptation drops. For me, it’s about savoring every detail, building my own mental images of the characters and settings, and really getting to know the story world intimately. When the movie finally arrives, it’s like a bonus, a visual treat that brings those cherished scenes to life, but I always have my original interpretation safely tucked away. My current mission, and I've given myself until Friday, is to finish 'My Oxford Year' by Julia Whelan. Yes, the very same Julia Whelan whose name is right there on the audiobook player screen on my phone! I’m currently just 1% into Chapter 1 of the audiobook, but I've also got the physical book open. My strategy? Listen during my commute or while doing chores, and then snuggle up with the physical copy in the evenings. It’s a fantastic way to consume a story quicker without feeling rushed. Plus, hearing the narration adds another layer to the experience, often bringing out nuances I might miss just by reading. I know some people prefer to watch the movie first, or skip the book entirely, but for a book like 'My Oxford Year,' with its promise of Oxford's charm and a touching love story, I just can't bring myself to do that. The anticipation seeing that Netflix-branded cover image pop up on my audiobook player makes me want to accelerate my reading even more! It's like a race against time, but a really enjoyable one. This dual approach really helps, especially when you're trying to fit a compelling story into a busy schedule. I've found that alternating between reading and listening keeps the story fresh in my mind and helps me absorb the plot more deeply. Sometimes, I'll even rewind the audiobook a bit if I pick up the physical book and want to re-read a specific passage. It’s all about personalizing the reading experience to make it as immersive as possible. And speaking of immersion, while I'm deep into 'My Oxford Year,' I also just started 'All Fours' by Miranda July. Yes, I'm a multi-book kind of person! But 'My Oxford Year' definitely has my full focus for now, especially with that Netflix deadline looming. The idea of discussing the book with fellow fans, and then immediately being able to compare it to the film, is incredibly exciting. So, tell me, do you rush to read books before their big screen debut? What are your tips for getting through a book quickly, especially when you're balancing multiple formats? I'd love to hear how you prepare for these #booktomovie moments! This whole experience is a rush, and I can't wait to share my full thoughts once I've finished both the book and watched the movie.
