Trying to work in some non-fiction this year
I do not believe I read one nonfiction in 2025 (and that's okay) but I would love to diversify a little bit more this year. This cover really caught my eye... looking for some of your favorite nonfiction reads that you always recommend?
Incorporating nonfiction books into your reading routine can be a refreshing way to gain new perspectives and deepen your understanding of the world. For those like me who haven’t explored much nonfiction lately, it’s an opportunity to broaden horizons beyond fiction’s narrative comforts. One author whose work stands out is Florence Given, known for her bestselling book 'Women Don’t Owe You Pretty.' Her writing combines personal experiences with cultural critique, making nonfiction both relatable and insightful. This approach can inspire readers to appreciate nonfiction as equally engaging as fiction. When selecting nonfiction, consider topics that align with your interests—be it memoirs, self-help, history, or social issues. Some personal favorites I often recommend include Michelle Obama's memoir 'Becoming' for its intimate storytelling, Yuval Noah Harari's 'Sapiens' for a broad historical perspective, and Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s essays for powerful cultural commentary. Reading nonfiction not only supports knowledge growth but also nurtures critical thinking by exposing you to real-world challenges and truths. To make the most of your nonfiction reading, jot down reflections or discuss ideas with others who share your reading goals. This can transform solitary reading into a richer, interactive experience. Ultimately, balancing fiction and nonfiction throughout the year supports a well-rounded literary diet that keeps reading exciting and enlightening. I look forward to hearing about your top nonfiction book recommendations as I add more of these insightful reads to my 2025 selections.
