Your Surroundings Affect You Profoundly
Your surroundings have a profound effect on your state of being and wellness. 🌿🌇
According to research by Saxbe et al., the way we describe and experience our home environments is linked to our stress levels. In their study, people who viewed their homes as cluttered or unfinished showed higher levels of cortisol, the stress hormone, across the day. In contrast, those who experienced their homes as restorative spaces reported better mood and healthier stress patterns.
This explains why I always love to visit BNH Hospital 🏥 in Bangkok. It is a beautifully organised place, with a warm, homely feel. Ornate balconies, glistening chandeliers, clean and bright spaces, and, of course, the glowing smiles of all the nurses, doctors, pharmacists, and support staff make this a truly special place.
Our surroundings do not just reflect our state of mind. They can actively shape it too.
If you are an educator 👨🏫 or trainer who wants a simple way to make your lessons more engaging, then do this one thing: make your classroom look beautiful. This small change will immediately have a big impact.
