When a door closed on me recently, instead of spiraling into self-doubt, I tried something new. I wrote down all the emotions I felt – frustration, sadness, even a little anger. Just getting them out helped me process it without letting it fester. Then, I asked myself, 'What can I learn from this? Is there a different approach I could take next time, or was this simply not the right fit for me?' This shifted my perspective from feeling like a victim to being an active participant in my own development. This process helped me rebuild my self-worth in a way that just trying to 'move on' never did, making me realize rejection isn't the end, but often a redirection. And let's talk about the whole 'I don't chase, I choose' mentality. This was a monumental game-changer for me! I used to invest so much energy into people or opportunities that clearly weren't interested or reciprocating. It was exhausting, left me feeling undervalued, and frankly, a bit desperate. One day, after another disappointing interaction, I realized I was constantly putting others' needs and desires above my own, silently hoping for their validation. That's when I decided to truly never chase. It sounds simple, but it takes conscious effort and a lot of self-awareness. For me, it meant stepping back from constantly initiating plans or conversations with certain friends, or not bending over backward for a work project where my contributions weren't being recognized. Instead, I started redirecting that precious energy towards things that truly lit me up – my passions, my personal goals, and surrounding myself with people who genuinely reciprocated effort and respect. This wasn't about playing games; it was about honoring my own boundaries and recognizing my intrinsic value. This powerful shift led directly to me truly understanding how to choose myself. What does that even mean in daily life? For me, it means setting aside non-negotiable time for self-care, whether it's a quiet morning coffee, a dedicated workout, or simply journaling my thoughts. It means saying 'no' to commitments that drain me, even if it feels uncomfortable at first, because I know my energy is a finite resource. It means advocating for my needs in relationships and at work, because I’ve learned to confidently know my worth. That little voice saying, 'You deserve better,' or 'Your time is valuable,' grew louder and more confident.
