You know, for years, I struggled with the idea of 'forgive, forget, and move on.' It sounds so simple, right? But in reality, it felt like carrying a huge weight everywhere. I'd picture myself in a beautiful scene, maybe like that red SUV I saw once, cruising on a winding coastal road at sunset, the sky painted in vibrant orange, pink, and blue. That's the freedom I craved, but my past kept me stuck, constantly replaying old hurts. I realized that a truly brighter future wasn't possible until I actively engaged in this process. I learned that forgiveness isn't about letting someone off the hook or condoning their actions; it's profoundly about freeing yourself from the emotional chains. For me, it started with acknowledging the hurt directly. I used to suppress it, thinking that was 'forgetting,' but it just festered, silently eroding my peace. Instead, I began journaling about what happened, allowing myself to feel the anger, sadness, and even disappointment without judgment. It also meant intentionally investing in myself – picking up new hobbies, cultivating meaningful connections with supportive friends and family, and creating new, positive experiences that filled my life with joy and purpose. I started to see my life as that beautiful ocean stretching to the horizon, full of endless possibilities, rather than just the stormy waters behind me. I embraced the vibrant orange, pink, and blue colors of new beginnings. This journey of letting go has been truly transformative. It wasn't a sudden, magical switch, but a gradual, sometimes challenging process, much like watching the sunset's colors slowly change over time. There were certainly days I felt like I was backsliding, moments when old feelings resurfaced, but I learned to be patient and kind to myself, recognizing that healing isn't linear.
