If completely silent, it could be a full obstruction – immediate action is vital. Now, let's talk about adapting those amazing Heimlich steps for different dog sizes. The core principles remain, but the application needs slight adjustments. For Small Dogs & Puppies: If your little one is choking, you can often pick them up. Hold them upside down by their hind legs, head pointing towards the floor, letting gravity assist. Deliver 3-5 sharp, controlled thrusts with your flat hand between their shoulder blades (like the 'sharp blow' step), or gentle abdominal compressions while inverted. The goal is to dislodge the object without injury.
