Day 13 Prioritize His Presence ✨ John 15:1-8

Day 13 really stuck out to me on my daily devotional. I don’t always keep up with my devotional, until these past weeks.

John 15:1-8

I Am the True Vine

I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine.

Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

... Read moreThat passage from John 15:1-8 really resonated with me lately. It's so easy to get caught up in daily life and forget the source of our strength. But this reminder of Jesus as 'the true vine' and us as the branches has been a game-changer for my spiritual walk. What does it truly mean to 'remain in me'? For me, it's about intentional connection. It's not just about going to church on Sunday, but a daily, conscious effort to stay plugged into Jesus. This means setting aside time for prayer, even if it's just a few minutes of quiet reflection. It’s diving into His Word, letting scripture like this one speak directly to my heart. And it’s about nurturing relationships with other believers who can encourage and uplift me on this journey. Just like a branch can't thrive without being attached to the vine, we can't truly flourish without Him. The passage says, 'If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.' This isn't just about doing good deeds, though those are important. It's about the transformation within us. When we're connected to the true vine, we naturally start to exhibit the 'fruits of the Spirit' – love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are the beautiful indicators that we are truly living in intimacy with Christ. It's not something we force, but a natural outflow of His life in us. I've noticed when I'm truly focused on Him, my interactions are kinder, my worries lessen, and I feel a deeper sense of peace. And what about the Father as the gardener? He prunes every branch that bears fruit so that it will be even more fruitful. This part can be tough, right? Pruning often means cutting away things that might seem comfortable or familiar. But I've learned that God, in His wisdom, knows exactly what needs to be trimmed for us to grow stronger and produce even more. It might be challenging seasons, letting go of certain habits, or facing uncomfortable truths, but it's always for our good, leading to deeper spiritual maturity and greater capacity to reflect His light. As the scripture says, 'You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.' He's already done the initial work; now He refines us. The stark reality that 'apart from me you can do nothing' is a powerful reminder of our dependence on Jesus. It's not about trying harder in our own strength, but about surrendering and allowing His strength to work through us. This passage truly emphasizes that our spiritual vitality, our ability to genuinely impact the world, and our peace of mind all stem from this vital connection to Him. I'm learning to prioritize His presence daily, and I encourage you to do the same!
