jeju, and the things i keep thinking about

... Read moreDuring my time in Jeju, I found myself truly embracing the island's peaceful rhythm. Mornings here don’t rush; they unfold gently, often accompanied by the soothing sound of waves. I remember sitting at a quiet table by the sea, basking in the calm as the waves played their endless melody. It felt like time slowed down, allowing me to fully soak in the surroundings. One of my favorite discoveries was the local coffee scene. Jeju is dotted with charming coffee shops, each offering their own unique ambiance and brews. I was delighted to find gems like Jeremy COFFEE, known for its inviting atmosphere and excellent coffee, which quickly became my go-to spot. Whether sipping a hot cup indoors or enjoying it outside with sea views, the coffee culture here perfectly complements the island’s laid-back vibe. Food experiences are another highlight. I tried abalone porridge that carried a delicate taste of the sea—comforting and fresh. Alongside this, sultteok, a chewy alcoholic rice cake, was a delightful treat that paired wonderfully with local drinks. These culinary finds made each meal memorable and gave me a deeper appreciation for Jeju’s traditional flavors. Beyond the food and drinks, the island’s local crafts added a meaningful touch to my journey. Small shops showcasing handmade items reminded me of Jeju’s rich culture and artistic heritage. Purchasing a few souvenirs also meant supporting local artisans, which felt rewarding. Finally, the cozy apartments I stayed in made the experience feel like home away from home. These spaces offered a peaceful retreat after days filled with exploration. Altogether, Jeju’s slower pace, unique flavors, and warm coffee nook experiences left a lasting impression that keeps calling me back to the island whenever life feels too rushed.
