I found that mornings and evenings were best suited for sightseeing, with afternoons perfect for enjoying local specialties and warm beverages at cozy spots like Ordinary Day Coffee in Yufuin. If you're anything like me, taking a pause when feeling under the weather—as happened on Day 10—can be a blessing in disguise, offering time to soak in local atmosphere at a slower pace. Another highlight I recommend is exploring Takachiho Gorge and the various cultural festivals around Amagase Falls, which showcase traditional Japanese autumn-winter celebrations. Sampling regional cuisine such as Kumamoto ramen and exploring unique local factories, like the Fukuya Mentaiko factory, enriches the travel experience beyond just sightseeing.
