What I do on my hour drive home

Since I commute to college it’s important to find ways to pass the time driving. These are two things that I have found to help me!

1. Find a good playlist or radio station🎵

I have been loving the Relax radio station on Apple Music recently. I love find songs that I can sing along to so I don’t end up feeling tired or drowsy while driving!

2. Listen to an Audio book

Audible is one of my faveorite apps it has endless stories so anyone can find something they like. I just started Right Man, Right Time by Meghan Quinn and it is so funny, it’s apart of the Vancouver Agitatiors Series (which is so good if you needed a recommendation)!

Beyond just picking a random audiobook, I've found that a little planning goes a long way in creating a truly enjoyable "daily playlist" for my drive home. If you've ever wondered how to really get the most out of your audiobooks and music for commuting, here’s what I've learned. First, let's talk about setting up your audiobook sessions. While apps like Audible make it super easy to just hit play, I like to think of my listening as a mini-playlist. For me, "setting up" a daily audiobook playlist isn't about literally creating a playlist like you would for music, but rather having a rotating selection ready to go. I usually have one main audiobook I'm engrossed in, perhaps a captivating story like 'Right Man, Right Time' that keeps me hooked, and then a backup or two. Here’s my personal process: Build a 'Commute Queue': Instead of finishing one book and then scrambling for the next, I keep a running list of audiobooks I want to listen to. Most audiobook apps have a wishlist or library feature where you can save titles. This way, when one story ends, the next is already lined up, preventing that moment of "what do I listen to now?" panic. Download in Advance: Always download your audiobooks before you head out! Nothing ruins a good listening flow like hitting a dead zone and losing your connection. This also saves data. Mix & Match Genres: Sometimes I'm in the mood for a gripping thriller, other times a lighthearted romance, or even a non-fiction book to learn something new. Having a variety downloaded means I can choose based on my mood after a long day. This is how I create my 'daily playlist' – a mental rotation of genres. Utilize Chapter Markers: For longer commutes, or if you switch between books, pay attention to chapter markers. Many apps allow you to bookmark specific spots. This helps you pick up exactly where you left off, even if you decide to switch to music for a bit. Now, about integrating Music into your daily drive! Sometimes an audiobook is too intense, or I just need to decompress with some tunes. This is where my music "playlist" comes into play. I've found a lot of joy in discovering specific radio stations or curated playlists that fit my driving mood. For instance, the 'Relax Radio' station on Apple Music has been a revelation for those days when I just want calm vibes without having to think about what song to pick next. Think of your daily commute as a flexible listening experience. Maybe the first half is for an audiobook, and the second half is for music. Or perhaps you rotate day-by-day. The key is to have your options ready and easily accessible. By proactively curating your audio choices – whether it’s a mental playlist of audiobooks, a downloaded queue, or a specific radio station – you transform that hour drive home from a chore into a truly enjoyable and enriching part of your day. Happy listening!
