Otsuki Bridge, Japan🐒
Saruhashi is a wooden bridge that spans the Katsura River in Otsuki City, Yamanashi Prefecture, and has long been known as one of the three strange bridges in Japan.
Why "Kikyo"?
The biggest feature of Saruhashi is that there are no bridge piers.
Because of the deep valley, pillars cannot be erected in the river, and wood called "Hanegi" is overhanging from both banks and a bridge is built over it. This unique method is rare in the world, and you can feel the height of traditional Japanese wooden technology.
Origin of the name
According to legend, Shirako, a landscaping engineer from Baekje, came up with the structure of this bridge about 1400 years ago after seeing the monkeys supporting each other across the valley.
It seems that the name "Saruhashi" was given from this.

猿橋は、橋脚がないという非常に珍しい構造で知られており、その独創的なデザインは日本だけでなく世界的にも高く評価されています。私が実際に訪れたとき、深い渓谷に向かって伸びる木製橋の美しさに圧倒されました。特に春や秋には周囲の自然と調和して、写真映えする絶景を楽しめます。 また、猿橋の構造は、橋を支える「刎木(はねぎ)」という木材が何段にも重なっていることで成り立っています。これは深い谷に橋脚を立てられないための工夫ですが、伝統工法の粋を集めた高い技術力を感じさせます。実際に橋を渡ってみると、木のぬくもりとともに安心感があり、自然と歴史を同時に体感できます。 伝説によると、約1400年前の百済から来た技術者、志羅呼（しらこ）が猿た ちの谷渡りを見てこの橋の構造を思いついたという話があり、そのロマンも魅力の一つです。訪れる人は単なる観光スポットとしてだけでなく、日本の歴史や文化に思いを馳せることができるでしょう。 猿橋の周辺には観光施設やカフェもあり、ゆったりとした時間を過ごせます。山梨県の絶景スポット巡りの一環として、ぜひ一度足を運んでみてください。私もまた訪れたいと思う、心に残る場所です。
