... Read moreAs an anime enthusiast, I'm always thrilled to share my top picks, and I've got five amazing series that I think you absolutely need to add to your watchlist! Trust me, these aren't just random choices; they're the shows that have genuinely captured my heart and kept me glued to the screen. So, va s'y! Let's dive deeper into why these anime are truly special.
First up, let's talk about MASHLE: MAGIC AND MUSCLES. If you haven't seen it yet, you're in for a treat! Imagine a world where everyone has magic, but our protagonist, Mash Burnedead, has none. Instead, he's got muscles and pure, unadulterated strength. It’s a hilarious blend of fantasy, action, and comedy, often dubbed 'One-Punch Man meets Harry Potter.' What really stands out, especially if you're looking for more depth, is the Divine Visionary Exam Arc. This arc is a fantastic showcase of Mash’s unique approach to problems – using brute force and common sense in a world obsessed with magic. The challenges he faces are intense, but his deadpan humor and loyalty to his friends make every moment gold. You get to see him push his limits, and each fight is incredibly satisfying. It’s a perfect example of overcoming expectations and proving that strength comes in many forms. The animation during this arc is stellar, making the action sequences incredibly dynamic and visually engaging.
Next on my list is Black Clover. Oh, Asta! What a character. This shonen underdog story about a boy born without magic in a magic-dominated world is incredibly inspiring. Asta's relentless determination and his dream of becoming the Wizard King are infectious. The magic system is creative, the fights are epic, and the bonds between the Black Bulls squad members feel so genuine. If you love a good underdog story with plenty of power-ups and emotional moments, you absolutely have to give Black Clover a try. It’s a journey of growth, friendship, and never giving up, which resonates so much with me.
Then there’s Tokyo Ghoul. This one delves into a darker, more psychological realm. The story of Kaneki Ken, a timid college student who becomes a half-ghoul, is both horrifying and deeply moving. It explores themes of identity, humanity, and survival in a world where ghouls and humans coexist in a brutal, often tragic, balance. The character development for Kaneki is phenomenal, watching him grapple with his new reality and the moral ambiguities of his existence. It’s not just about the gore; it’s about the internal struggle and the complex relationships that form under extreme circumstances. If you're into something with a bit more depth and a darker edge, this is a must-watch.
GANGSTA. is another gem that offers a grittier, more mature narrative. Set in a corrupt city, it follows two 'Handymen' who take on jobs no one else will touch. The characters are complex, flawed, and incredibly compelling, dealing with tough themes and a dark underworld. It's got a unique art style and a fantastic jazz-infused soundtrack that really sets the mood. It's a show that pulls you into its world and makes you care about its broken characters.
Finally, High-Rise Invasion offers a thrilling survival horror experience. Imagine waking up in a world of skyscrapers connected by bridges, with masked figures hunting you down. It’s a high-stakes, action-packed anime that keeps you on the edge of your seat. The mystery of the world, the terrifying masked 'angels,' and the protagonist's fight for survival make it an incredibly gripping watch. If you enjoy survival games and psychological thrillers, this Netflix original is definitely worth checking out.
These are some of my current and past favorites, and I truly believe they offer something for every anime fan. I hope this gives you a clearer idea of why I love them so much. So, va s'y, go ahead and add them to your list – you won’t regret it! Have you watched any of these? Who are your favorite characters? I’m still a Tokyo Ghoul/Kaneki Ken girl till the end, and of course, Asta!
