Need to take the word “like” out of my vocabulary
I’ve been on a personal mission to reduce my use of the filler word "like" in my everyday conversations because I noticed it was weakening the impact of what I was trying to say. This small change surprisingly made a big difference in how others perceive me and how I feel about my communication skills. Cutting out "like" is not about perfection but about becoming more mindful of our speaking habits. I started by recording myself during casual talks and meetings, which helped me identify how often I used the word. One effective technique was to pause instead of filling the silence with "like," giving me a moment to gather my thoughts and speak more deliberately. This approach improved my clarity and confidence. I also found that practicing with friends who gently reminded me or helped me catch the word made the process more enjoyable and sustainable. Over time, I started choosing more precise words and expressions, which helped me articulate ideas better and reduced nervous habits. If you’re trying to stop using "like," don’t be discouraged if it feels strange at first. It’s all about consistent practice and conscious effort. With patience, you can transform your communication style and make your speech more impactful and professional.
