no book aesthetic just book review🌸

I really wanted to love this book. It’s been sitting on my shelf since it came out in 2022 and as a huge science lover, the premise sounded right up my alley. Plus, seeing so many glowing reviews gave me high hopes.

Unfortunately, it just wasn’t for me.

My main issue came down to the execution of the characters. Bee paints Levi out to be this absolute monster, yet his actions like wishing he were the one marrying her instead of Tim tell a completely different story. The book suffered from being exclusively in Bee’s single POV. Constant internal monologues made her come across as the truly problematic one, while Levi just felt misunderstood. Having dual perspectives would have given us a much-needed glimpse into Levi’s side of things and made the dynamic far more balanced.

It’s disappointing because the potential was definitely there, but I just couldn’t push through.

... Read moreWhen I first picked up Ali Hazelwood's 'Love on the Brain,' I, too, was drawn in by the buzz of the New York Times bestselling author known for charming science-centered romances like 'The Love Hypothesis.' As a science enthusiast, I was eager to dive into a story that promised both romance and intellectual depth. However, much like the original reviewer, I found myself struggling to connect with the characters beyond the surface. One aspect that really stood out was how the story’s single perspective limited my understanding of the complex dynamics between Bee and Levi. It’s common in romance novels to adopt a single point of view, but when the protagonist becomes the sole lens, it can sometimes skew the perception of other characters. Levi's actions, such as his wish to marry Bee rather than Tim, suggest more nuance than what Bee’s internal monologues reveal. Including his perspective could have balanced the portrayal and enhanced emotional depth. I also noticed that the book’s pacing contributed to my difficulty in engaging with the story. Even though the premise was promising, the narrative kept circling around Bee’s thoughts, which sometimes felt repetitive. This made it harder to feel invested in the evolving romance or the scientific backdrop that was initially so captivating. From my experience, reading books by Ali Hazelwood that feature dual perspectives or more fleshed-out character development offers a richer experience. If you’re someone like me who enjoys emotional complexity alongside scientific settings, exploring her other works might be more rewarding. For this title, approaching it with the understanding that it centers heavily on one character’s internal view might help set expectations. If you decide to give 'Love on the Brain' a try, consider sharing your own thoughts on the character dynamics and whether the single POV worked for you. It’s always helpful to see different viewpoints, especially for books that can be quite divisive among readers. And for those keeping a TBR list, early DNF (Did Not Finish) decisions are part of the reading journey—knowing what doesn’t quite work helps find the titles that truly resonate.

DNF at 60 pages. I really wanted to get into this because the premise sounded interesting but unfortunately it just didn’t hook me. The pacing felt slow and I never fully connected with the characters in the first few chapters. Some of the dialogue also felt a bit cliché which made it harder for

Guys I have such a love hate relationship with this book! Okay here are my thoughts, Lucy the FMC is a dummy and not one of my favorite characters she felt very cliche and misunderstood Josh so much. Josh the MMC was such a sweetheart once we got to know him better, the way he was in the last
