Master Bedroom Redo
We are exhausted! I have posted previously how I lost my beloved mother-in-law on July 24th. My husband and I lived with her the last 10 years and took care of her. She left us her house even though she has eight other children. She’s been gone just over two months now and we have just started setting our bedroom up. I am happy to have more room but I’d rather have Ma a zillion times over!
However, she was 95 and had been ready to go for a long time to be with Jesus. She suffered greatly with arthritis. Just over a month before she died, arthritis caused her jaw to deteriorate to the point it dislocated. She spent 10 days in the hospital. They couldn’t do surgery because they said she wouldn’t wake up. They gave her pain and anti-inflammatory meds. Five days after she came home from the hospital, we gave her a surprise 95th birthday party. We never dreamed she’d be gone less than a month later. I hope she’d approve of the decor. She and I had similar tastes.
Bedroom will be decorated with Americana decor. This is what we have so far! ✨
The antique secretary belonged to my paternal grandparents, then my dad, and now me. My mama gave it to me when he passed many years ago. It now houses a small part of my Angel collection. The paintings, the shelf in the corner with knickknacks, the overalls planter and ladder-back chair all belonged to my MIL.
The bookshelf—The vintage oil lamps are alike but one was my grandmother’s and one my MIL’s. What are the odds? The overalls planter was my MIL’s. I can’t wait to get a plant in it!
Sorry the photo of the bookcase with glass doors isn’t more clear. This bookcase belonged to my paternal grandmother. On top is my bear collection, eagle clock, and some vintage items. The top shelf inside the bookshelf has my blue and white collection. Everything on the middle shelf has roses on it. The bottom shelf houses my teacup and saucers and milk glass collection. Some of the items belonged to my paternal grandmother. Hubby still has to hang my shaker clock on the floor by the bookshelf.
The pictures are not hung where they are going to go. I am going to finish setting up the room and then decide where to hang them.
Ladder-back chair has some of my stuffed bears. I have another burgundy ladder-back chair in my shed that will go on the other side of my great grandma’s chest, both of which belonged to my MIL. More Americana decor on the chest and three cobalt blue vases, one of which belonged to my paternal grandmother.
The pitcher with the flowers belonged to my husband’s maternal grandmother. The drapes are navy with burgundy sheers to fit my Americana decor.
