San Pedro Belize 🌺🌴🐠

My first journey out of the country to San Pedro, Belize, was truly a dream come true, and I can't recommend it enough! If you're considering your own international adventure, let me tell you why San Pedro on Ambergris Caye should be at the top of your list. Getting there was part of the adventure itself! After landing in Belize City, I took a small prop plane over to Ambergris Caye, and the views of the turquoise waters from above were absolutely breathtaking. You can also opt for a water taxi, which is a great budget-friendly option and gives you a different perspective of the coastline. Once you arrive in San Pedro, the main mode of transportation is golf carts – and let me tell you, zipping around town in one was one of my favorite parts of the experience! It’s such a fun and laid-back way to explore. For anyone planning a trip, my top recommendation is to spend a day (or two!) exploring the incredible marine life. Snorkeling or diving at Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley was an absolute highlight. I remember leaping into the water and instantly being surrounded by vibrant coral, playful nurse sharks, and graceful stingrays – it was like swimming in an aquarium! Even if you're not an experienced diver, the snorkeling is fantastic and accessible for all. Another must-visit is Secret Beach. Don't let the name fool you, it's not much of a secret anymore, but it's still absolutely stunning. The water is incredibly calm and shallow, perfect for relaxing, and there are plenty of beach bars serving up delicious food and drinks. When it comes to food, prepare your taste buds for a treat! Belizean cuisine is a delicious blend of Caribbean, Mexican, and Mayan influences. I absolutely fell in love with the fresh seafood, especially the ceviche, and you have to try some fry jacks for breakfast – they’re incredible! Don't be afraid to try the local street food; it’s often the most authentic and flavorful. A few practical tips I picked up: English is the official language, which makes navigating very easy. While the Belizean dollar is the local currency, US dollars are widely accepted and often preferred in tourist areas. It's always a good idea to carry some smaller denominations for tips or street vendors. Pack light, breezy clothing, plenty of reef-safe sunscreen, and a good insect repellent, especially for evenings. And most importantly, embrace the laid-back 'island time' vibe – everything moves a little slower, and that's part of its charm. San Pedro truly offers a perfect blend of adventure, relaxation, and cultural immersion. It was the perfect place for my first international trip, and I left with so many incredible memories and a strong desire to return.
