As a devoted bunny mom, sharing Winston's little personality is one of my favorite things! While his main hobbies are being cute, sleeping, and eating, there's so much more to his daily life that keeps him happy and healthy. Ensuring our bunnies have plenty of enrichment is key to preventing boredom and destructive behaviors. For Winston, this means a variety of safe chew toys – he absolutely adores cardboard tunnels, willow balls, and even toilet paper rolls stuffed with hay. I've found that rotating his toys every few days keeps him engaged and curious. Daily exercise time outside his enclosure is also crucial; watching his 'zoomies' (bursts of energy) and 'binkies' (those adorable jumps and twists) is always a highlight of my day, showing he's truly content and happy. I also try to incorporate some puzzle toys where he has to work for a treat, which stimulates his mind! Speaking of food, Winston's love for leafy greens and fruit is real! But it's crucial for all pet parents to know which ones are safe and in what quantities. For his daily greens, I primarily offer romaine lettuce, cilantro, parsley, basil, and a mixed spring greens. I always wash them thoroughly and introduce new types slowly to avoid upsetting his sensitive digestive system. Fruits, while loved, are strictly given as treats due to their sugar content – small pieces of apple (seeds removed!), banana, strawberries, or blueberries are his absolute favorites. A tiny bit goes a long way! It's super vital to remember that high-quality timothy hay should make up about 80% of their diet, available 24/7. This fibrous hay is essential for their digestive health and helps naturally wear down their ever-growing teeth. Fresh water, changed daily, and a small portion of high-fiber pellets round out his diet. I always avoid anything processed, sugary, or human snacks, as these can be very dangerous for bunnies. Beyond food and play, creating a safe and comfortable environment is paramount for a happy bunny. Winston has his own spacious, bunny-proofed area with a cozy hidey-house where he can feel secure and private. Litter training was surprisingly straightforward with positive reinforcement and a dedicated litter box filled with paper-based litter. Grooming is also part of our routine; regular brushing, especially during shedding seasons, helps prevent hairballs. And regular vet check-ups, even when he seems perfectly fine, are a must with a rabbit-savvy vet just to ensure he's in top health and to catch any potential issues early. Bonding with Winston took time and patience; initially, I'd just sit quietly near him, offering treats, and letting him come to me on his own terms. Now, he's incredibly affectionate, nudging my hand for pets! Being a pet parent to Winston has brought so much joy and taught me so much, and I hope sharing a bit more about his world helps other bunny lovers provide the best care for their furry companions too.
