Planning a road trip to the Finger Lakes? I recently completed this itinerary and can say it’s a fantastic blend of nature, culture, and relaxation. Starting at the Corning Museum of Glass, you get a rare chance to watch live glassblowing and even make your own glass art—an experience that combines creativity with history. Watkins Glen State Park was a highlight for me. The gorge trail, with its cascading waterfalls and charming stone bridges, provides both a refreshing hike and incredible photo ops. The pathways are well-maintained and offer a variety of lookout points to appreciate the natural beauty. Spending time at Seneca Lake pier offered a peaceful break with beautiful lake views and a chance to snap pictures by the iconic Seneca Lake sign, making for perfect social media memories. I especially enjoyed exploring the Seneca Lake Wine Trail, where the vineyards provided not only delicious wines but also picturesque views of the lakeshore. Belhurst Castle added a historic charm with its lakeside setting, perfect for a wine tasting followed by dining or even an overnight stay if you want to extend your adventure. For waterfall lovers, the stops at Ithaca Falls, Taughannock Falls, and Lucifer Falls offer diverse scenic experiences, each with its own character—from the powerful city-adjacent Ithaca Falls to the impressive height of Taughannock Falls and the dramatic cascades of Lucifer Falls inside Robert H. Treman State Park. If you have extra time, don’t miss Buttermilk Falls and Chimney Bluffs State Parks. Both spots provide unique trails and viewpoints that enrich the whole Finger Lakes experience. This trip is especially perfect for those seeking a blend of outdoor activities, cultural stops, and winery visits, making it an ideal PTO-friendly getaway. Consider packing comfortable hiking shoes, a camera, and an appetite for local wine and food. The Finger Lakes region truly offers something unforgettable at every turn.
