Shopping with anxiety | How I overcome 🤍

Believe it or not, I'm not a social butterfly. 😅I even get nervous commenting on posts!

Yet I still have to get ingredients to do the things I love

➡️Baking

&

➡️Eating

So how do I stay in budget🫰🏾, calm🤙🏾, and collected🙏🏾 while shopping? Here's my tips⬇️

1.) CREATE A LIST: Everyone seems to ignore this part, and I get it. Sometimes, you want to browse🤷🏾‍♀️. But that's not helpful budget and anxiety wise. You feeling pressured and judged in the store isn't helping your pockets. "Oh, what if they see me looking at this product for too long?". Downloading grocery apps (you get deals and everything!) and checking the price of your items and writing what you need down on a list definitely gets rid of the stress.

2. Knowing your Time: Timing, my friend. It's very important to know. Less people = Less stress. Knowing what time your grocery store isn't busy can be found out by searching on Google or just going a couple of times and figuring it out. Usually, Tuesday nights and Thursday mornings are empty. Night shopping on a weekday in general is pretty chill.

3. Realizing where you are: Stores are different everywhere. You could go to a popular grocery store on one street, and the layout could change completely at another location. To be efficient, you have to know your store isles. Now, sadly, this step involves going to the store. The apps are often incorrect with their isle labeling because the stores change around so much. 😅One day, it's the bread isle the other day it's the canned goods. To overcome this, you have to memorize not only the store isle signs but also its configuration. This also helps with sensory overload❗️Avoid certain aisles or stimuli that trigger anxiety.

4. Remaining present: You're at the store for a reason! You belong there. No matter how many people are staring at you or how many times you think you messed up, you have to remember you're there for YOU. View grocery shopping as a necessary self-care task, focusing on nourishing yourself and loved ones.

5. Reward yourself: YOU'RE JUST A GIRL✨️ (in the most non gendered way, lol) buy that little sweet treat. If you just went to the grocery store for necessary items, it starts to feel like a chore. And idk about yall, but I need to be comfortable while doing my chores!! A sweet treat makes things worth it. idk the math. 🤷🏾‍♀️

Welp, that's all the tips I have at the moment! Hope this helps yall with shopping 🫶🏾

... Read moreShopping for groceries can be a daunting task, especially for those who experience anxiety. It's common to feel overwhelmed in crowded stores or when making decisions about what to buy. Mindfulness can play a crucial role in easing these feelings. Begin by cultivating an awareness of your senses before entering the store. This practice can ground you, allowing you to remain calm. Creating a shopping list is essential; it not only provides guidance on what to buy but also helps reduce impulse purchases and the anxiety associated with indecision. Utilize grocery shopping apps that offer not only price checks but also coupons and promotions, further enhancing the sense of preparation and control. Timing your shopping trips can also make a significant difference. Research when your local grocery stores are less crowded—typically mid-week or early mornings. Opting for these quieter times can create a more manageable environment, minimizing distractions that may heighten your anxiety. Understanding the layout of your preferred store is another effective strategy. Familiarity with where specific products are located allows you to navigate quickly and confidently, reducing time spent in crowded aisles. Some people benefit from avoiding certain aisles that trigger anxiety, maintaining a focus instead on essential items. Finally, remember that it's okay to treat yourself after a successful shopping trip. Whether it's a small sweet treat or a favorite snack, rewarding yourself can transform shopping from a stressful chore into a self-care activity, encouraging positive associations with the experience.
