The saturation of creative fields like film and photography results in a notable 12.9% unemployment rate, which means that most graduates pursue alternative careers outside their area of study. This trend also applies to fine arts (12.6% unemployment) and drama/theater (11.7% unemployment) degrees, where many graduates often find themselves working in retail, serving tables, or other unrelated jobs while waiting for opportunities in their field. Liberal arts degrees, although broader, show a 9.2% unemployment rate because many employers prefer candidates with more specialized skills. Music degrees follow a similar pattern with a 9.8% unemployment rate, as full-time professional music careers are rare; many graduates teach music or work in different industries. Based on these insights, it’s crucial for students and graduates in these fields to develop additional skills or pursue alternative career paths that complement their education. Internships, networking, skill certifications, and practical experience in related areas can enhance employability. In my opinion, having a backup plan or combining your passion with technical skills can increase your chances of landing a sustainable job after graduation.
