During your anatomy scan at around 20 weeks of pregnancy, expect comprehensive monitoring of your baby's development. The scan typically assesses fetal heartbeat, anatomical details, and the overall wellbeing of both mother and baby. Key metrics to look out for include the child's sex, which can often be determined during this ultrasound. For mothers-to-be, it’s crucial to note changes in your baby's heartbeat, which can indicate their health status; a typical range is between 120 and 160 beats per minute. In addition to monitoring fetal health, you’ll also have your glucose screening shortly after. This test is essential for identifying gestational diabetes, which can pose risks to both mother and child if left untreated. Don’t hesitate to ask your healthcare provider any questions you may have during these appointments, as clear communication can greatly enhance your understanding of the process. Remember, every appointment is an opportunity to connect with your baby and gain vital information for your journey ahead.
