Coach City Tote Vs. Target tote: Which one wins?

I bought a $150 Coach Tote and a $30 Target tote to see which one was better. Here are my thoughts:

Size:

Although it seems both the Coach and Target totes have the same height and length, the Coach tote seems to have a bigger width, and can hold a bit more than the Target one.

Winner: Coach

Price:

Coach tote was bought through the Coach Outlet for $150, Target tote was bought for $30

Winner: Target for the great price

Look:

Dare I say I like the style and design of the Target tote more? I’m digging the white and tan! Still love the classic Coach look though

Winner: Target

Interior:

Coach’s interior has a clasp and a bigger pouch, while Target’s white interior gets dirty easily with a smaller pouch and no clasp button.

Winner: Coach

Holding Capacity:

Both Coach and Target hold all my work items needed, but because of Coach’s extra width it seems it holds everything more comfortably.

Winner: Coach

Feel:

Coach definitely has a better feel and material than Target’s, but Target is holding her own!

Winner: Coach

Overall: Coach is the winner, but Target’s tote is definitely worth the bang for your buck!

... Read moreAfter putting both my Coach City Tote and that surprisingly chic Target tote through their paces, I've gathered even more thoughts on choosing the perfect work bag. It's not just about the brand; it's about what truly works for your daily grind and personal style! When you're looking for a great coach bag for work, or any tote for that matter, carrying a laptop is often a top priority. My Coach City Tote, with its generous width and sturdy structure, truly shines here. I can comfortably fit my 13-inch laptop, charger, notebook, and even a water bottle without it feeling like a sardine can. The large zippered pouch inside is a lifesaver for keeping smaller tech essentials organized. This contrasts with the Target tote, which, while it can hold my work items, feels a bit more crammed, especially with thicker laptops. The Coach’s slightly superior material also gives it a better feel that promises longevity. One thing I learned quickly is that a good interior is everything for a work tote. The clean, light brown lining of the Coach tote makes finding things so much easier compared to the Target tote's white lining which, as I noticed, can appear easily soiled with daily use – coffee spills, pen marks, you name it! A button clasp or magnetic closure, like the one in my Coach, adds an extra layer of security, especially on public transport. My Target tote lacks this, and I've had things almost tumble out a few times. Now, about the price difference. While the Coach City Tote definitely won on several fronts, the Target tote is still an incredible alternative for the price. If you’re eyeing a coach knock off or just a budget-friendly option, consider what you're willing to compromise on. For $30, the Target tote offers a stylish look with its white and tan geometric pattern and a decent holding capacity for essentials. It really makes you think about whether you need that signature pattern luxury or if a more casual, affordable bag fits your lifestyle better right now. The key is to look for bags with similar height and length, and then check the width and interior organization, just like I did with these two. When recommending a great work tote, I always advise checking for reinforced straps, a stable base that doesn't sag when full, and interior pockets or dividers. You want something that can withstand daily wear and tear. Even if you can't splurge on a Coach right now, many brands offer durable, stylish totes that can carry your laptop and essentials efficiently. Don't forget to consider the material – a more structured material tends to hold its shape better, especially when loaded with work documents or a laptop. For me, the slightly better material and feel of the Coach definitely contribute to its longevity. But if you’re like me and love a good deal, the Target option truly holds its own for everyday errands where durability isn't the absolute top concern. Ultimately, the best tote is one that fits your needs, budget, and style. My Coach City Tote has proven its worth for my busy workdays, but I still grab my Target tote for quick trips when I need something light and trendy. Both have a place in my closet, proving that sometimes, you can have the best of both worlds!
