Ocean Weekend

Usually being here brings me some kind of peace.

Not this time. I usually feel happy to be here, to hear the waves. To feel the spray on my face. Even in the rain.

But after being unceremoniously laid off on Thursday, without any kind of signs it was going to be me. Actually, I should have known when all the folks who normally don’t talk to me started to.

Maybe today at the beach will be better before we head back to the city.

I know that feeling all too well. While I usually find instant calm with the sand beneath my feet and the sound of the waves at Ocean Shores, there are days when you need a little extra effort to rediscover that sense of peace. But even on those tougher days, Ocean Shores, WA, offers so many ways to recenter yourself and enjoy its unique charm. If you're wondering what to do in Ocean Shores to truly unwind or just have a great time, let me share some of my personal favorites. Beyond just strolling along the shore, which is always a must, I highly recommend exploring a bit further. For sheer natural beauty and a feeling of getting away from it all, Damon Point is incredible. It's a fantastic spot for birdwatching, hunting for unique shells and driftwood, or simply sitting and watching the ocean meet Grays Harbor. The quiet solitude there often helps me clear my head. For those who love a more active experience, renting a moped or a bicycle and cruising along the paved path that runs parallel to the beach is a fantastic way to see the town and feel the ocean breeze. It's one of my go-to Ocean Shores activities when I need to shake off some stress. You can even venture into the town center, where you'll find quirky souvenir shops and delightful local eateries. Speaking of food, you absolutely have to try the fresh seafood – there are some hidden gems that serve up the best clam chowder! Evenings in Ocean Shores can be just as magical. If you're looking for a peaceful beach at night experience, grab a blanket and head to the sand for some stargazing. Away from the city lights, the night sky can be breathtaking, offering a different kind of calm. Sometimes, just listening to the rhythmic crash of the waves in the darkness brings a profound sense of tranquility. For a bit of local flavor and learning, the Ocean Shores Interpretive Center (or North Beach Museum, depending on what you're looking for) offers a glimpse into the area's history and ecology. It's a nice change of pace if the weather isn't cooperating or if you want a break from the beach. There’s also miniature golf, which can be a fun, lighthearted distraction if you're with family or friends. And for those wondering if Ocean Shores, WA, is a good place to live or even just revisit, I’d say it’s the perfect blend of small-town charm and natural wonder. It has a relaxed, unpretentious vibe that makes it incredibly welcoming. Whether you're seeking a quiet retreat or an action-packed getaway, you'll find plenty of things to do in Ocean Shores to suit your mood. From the simple pleasure of walking on the sand to exploring nature trails or enjoying local treats, it's a place that truly offers a chance to reconnect with yourself and find that elusive peace.
