WARNING FOR SLIDE 2. I scraped my legged up and it looks a bit grubby. Not bloody about anything, just a heads up!
We had a friend’s birthday celebration Saturday night, I learned how to crochet, met Batman, scratched the hell out of my leg, and vegged out in my ATEEZ hoodie Sunday!!
... Read moreOkay, let's talk about that scraped leg! You saw the warning on slide 2, and honestly, it’s a classic example of life throwing a curveball when you least expect it. My weekend was packed with fun – learning to crochet, meeting my friend’s amazing dog Willow, and celebrating a birthday – but that kickball injury definitely added an unexpected twist.
It happened during a casual game of kickball with friends on Saturday. One moment I was laughing and running, feeling totally carefree, and the next, I misjudged a slide into base. Next thing I knew, my leg felt a sharp sting, and when I looked down, there it was: a pretty decent scrape on my leg. It wasn't bleeding profusely, thankfully, but it was definitely raw and superficial, exactly what you'd expect from a clumsy kickball maneuver on rough ground.
My first thought was, 'Ugh, typical!' But also, 'How do I best take care of this?' I'm no stranger to minor bumps and scrapes, so I usually have a little routine. As soon as I got home, the first thing I did was thoroughly clean the area with mild soap and water. It's so important to get any dirt or debris out to prevent infection. I gently dabbed it dry and then applied a thin layer of antibiotic ointment. I usually keep a stash of these things for little mishaps. For a scrape like this, which was quite wide but not deep, I opted for a breathable bandage to keep it protected from further irritation and to allow it to heal without constantly being exposed.
Over the rest of the weekend, I kept a close eye on it. I changed the dressing daily, making sure the area stayed clean and dry. It’s amazing how quickly a body starts to heal, but it still looks a bit 'grubby' as I mentioned in my original post – that's just the natural healing process starting! I've learned that patience is key with these minor injuries. You don't want to pick at scabs or try to rush the healing. Just let your body do its thing.
If you ever find yourself with a similar scraped leg from an adventurous weekend or a clumsy moment, here are a few tips I’ve picked up that have always worked for me:
Clean Immediately: Use mild soap and cool water to gently rinse away any dirt.
Assess the Wound: Is it just superficial, or is it deep, bleeding heavily, or showing signs of infection (redness, swelling, pus)? For anything serious, please consult a doctor!
Apply Antiseptic: A dab of antibiotic ointment can help prevent infection.
Cover It Up: A clean bandage or dressing protects the scrape from further injury and keeps it clean. Change it daily.
Monitor for Infection: Keep an eye out for increasing redness, warmth, swelling, or pus. These are signs you need medical attention.
Stay Hydrated: Good hydration helps your body heal efficiently.
Even though my leg isn't looking its best, it's just a reminder of an incredibly fun weekend. It’s a little battle scar from living life to the fullest, even if that means a casual game of kickball turns into a minor kickball injury! These small incidents are just part of the journey, and learning how to handle them quickly and effectively makes all the difference.
