So glad I got to experience Lake Erie this summer! While taking the Jet Express to Put-in-Bay was an absolute blast and a fantastic way to start the day with those amazing views, there's so much more to discover for anyone looking for exciting Lake Erie activities. If you're planning a trip, here are a few more recommendations from my recent adventure to make your visit truly unforgettable and maximize your time in this beautiful region. Once you arrive at Put-in-Bay, the real island fun truly begins. My top tip for exploring is definitely to rent a golf cart right off the ferry dock. It's hands down the best way to navigate and see the entire island at your own pace, giving you the freedom to stop wherever your curiosity takes you. We zipped around, making a significant stop at Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial. The history there is fascinating, and climbing to the top offers unparalleled panoramic views of Lake Erie and the surrounding islands – a perfect photo opportunity! Afterwards, we headed to one of the island's famous wineries – the Put-in-Bay Winery offers lovely tastings with a beautiful waterfront setting, truly ideal for unwinding and enjoying the gentle lake breezes. For a true taste of the region, don't forget to grab some fresh perch or walleye at one of the local restaurants; it’s a culinary experience unique to Lake Erie! Beyond the vibrant atmosphere of Put-in-Bay, the broader Lake Erie region is packed with other fantastic activities that cater to all interests. If you have an extra day or are looking for a slightly different vibe, consider hopping on another ferry to Kelleys Island. It’s generally a bit quieter and more laid-back than Put-in-Bay but equally charming, renowned for its stunning glacial grooves and beautiful state park beaches – perfect for a relaxing afternoon. For those who love the great outdoors and a bit of sport, fishing charters are incredibly popular on Lake Erie, especially known for its abundant walleye and perch. You can easily find local guides who will take you out for a half or full day, providing all the gear you need for a memorable angling experience. Another must-do is visiting one of the many picturesque lighthouses scattered along the coastline. They offer not only fantastic photo opportunities but often house interesting historical exhibits that tell tales of Lake Erie's maritime past. If you're traveling with family or just love a good thrill, Cedar Point amusement park, often called 'America's Roller Coast,' is a world-class destination located right on Lake Erie, just a short drive or ferry ride from some points. It’s got something for everyone, from heart-pounding roller coasters to gentler, family-friendly rides and shows. Overall, my journey reaffirmed that Lake Erie truly has a diverse range of activities to offer, whether you're into historical sites, culinary delights, relaxing on the beach, or seeking high-octane adventure. My trip was filled with so many memorable moments, and I can't wait to go back and explore even more. Don't just take the Jet Express; immerse yourself in everything this incredible lake has to offer – you won't regret making these memories!
