My fitness journey has had its ups and downs. I first started working out when I was 13 years old but I was never consistent. But on 2024, at my 20 years old, I was diagnosed with so much shit that I caused to myself from not eating properly. And with all the diet I did, I didn’t only lost fat but muscle too, and just 2 months ago I went back to the gym and to lifting for the 173827163828th time in these last 8 years of my life, and finally locked in. I just come here to tell you don’t be hard on yourself, little by little you’ll achieve the changes that you want, I know I still wanna make even more changes and I’m finally feel like myself again. And it’s not because of all the weight I lost but because I could finally find myself in the process, the light that was inside of me that once turned off it’s back on and it’s brighter than ever.
My journey to losing 42 pounds in one year wasn't just about the numbers on the scale; it was a complete mindset overhaul. Like many, I'd tried countless diets and workout routines, always falling off track. What finally clicked for me was understanding that real, lasting fitness transformation isn't a sprint, but a marathon fueled by self-compassion and small, consistent steps. For me, seeing those initial before weight loss photos next to my progress, perhaps in a gym changing room mirror, kept me incredibly motivated. Now, taking a confident mirror selfie in a cropped top and matching shorts feels like a genuine celebration of how far I've truly come. It’s not just about fitting into a smaller size, but about the strength and confidence I’ve built. Nutrition played a huge role too, and it’s where I used to mess up the most. Instead of restrictive diets that left me feeling deprived and irritable, I focused on fueling my body properly and sustainably. This meant prioritizing lean protein in every meal, incorporating plenty of vibrant vegetables, and learning about sensible portion sizes without feeling like I was constantly missing out. It wasn't about cutting out everything I loved but finding a balanced approach that was enjoyable and sustainable in the long run. I really learned to listen to my body's hunger cues and make mindful choices, rather than eating out of boredom or emotion. The key is to experiment and find what truly works for you and your lifestyle. Beyond the physical changes, this body transformation was profoundly mental and emotional. There were countless days I didn't want to go to the gym, days I felt deeply frustrated with my slow progress, or moments when I felt like simply giving up. That's precisely where the 'don't be hard on yourself' message truly resonated with me. I learned to acknowledge those difficult feelings, but still find the strength to push through, even if it was just for a shorter workout or a healthier meal choice. Celebrating non-scale victories – like having more energy throughout the day, noticing improved sleep, or finally fitting comfortably into an old grey athletic outfit – became just as important, if not more so, than the number on the scale itself. It’s about building a healthier, more loving relationship with yourself, both inside and out. This newfound self-acceptance is the real 'light' I found.
