... Read moreWaterbury, my beloved Brass City, is truly buzzing with energy, and I'm thrilled to see it coming alive again, contrary to what some might believe! This April 2025 is shaping up to be an incredible month, packed with opportunities to connect, contribute, and celebrate our community. I wanted to share a deeper dive into why these events are so special and how you can get involved.
First off, let’s talk about community spirit. I personally believe that a strong community starts with all of us pitching in. That's why I'm really looking forward to the Citywide Spring Cleaning events happening every Monday and Tuesday until April 22nd. It’s such an easy way to make a tangible difference in our neighborhoods, like the efforts at Lincoln Street mentioned in the flyers. You just show up, grab some supplies, and spend a little time making Waterbury shine. It’s not just about picking up litter; it’s about meeting neighbors and showing pride in our shared spaces. And speaking of helping out, the Food Distribution by Brooklyn Bridge Initiative is another fantastic effort. It warms my heart to know that essential supplies are being provided without question. Just remember their timely schedule – every other Tuesday, ending promptly at 10:00 AM at 952 Bank St. – and don’t forget your bag!
For families, especially those with unique needs, the Monti's Arch First Annual Neurodiverse Family Fair on April 5th is a must-attend. I truly appreciate events that prioritize inclusivity. It's not every day you find a fair that offers free entry, bringing together experts, resources, and, most importantly, experienced parents sharing their journeys. It’s a wonderful chance to feel supported and connect with others who understand. You'll find it at 268 North Main Street – mark your calendars!
And for those who love local arts and culture, Waterbury has some real gems this month. The People's Platform Community Open Mic, hosted by the incredible Ethereal Empress at the Afro Caribbean Cultural Center, is a vibrant hub for local talent. I always find something new and inspiring there, whether it’s poetry, music, or storytelling. It’s fantastic to see these platforms thrive. And if you’re a theater enthusiast like me, you absolutely cannot miss Pa'Lante Theater Company’s production of ‘Don Juan’ by Juan Ramirez Jr., directed by Rafael Feliciano-Roman. Supporting our local theater group is so important, and their shows are always top-notch. You can grab your tickets at palantetheater.org for performances from April 10th to 20th at the Black Box Theater.
Finally, for a touch of elegance and giving back, the Waterbury Bridge to Success Emeralds and Diamonds Soirée on April 11th is an event with a purpose. Celebrating Black Maternal Health Awareness, it’s a beautiful opportunity to dress up, connect with influential community members, and contribute to a vital cause. It’s happening at Grand Oak Villa, and early bird tickets are a steal at $65. It's truly a chance to make a difference while enjoying a wonderful evening.
Waterbury is truly experiencing a renaissance, and I'm so excited to be a part of it. These events are just a snapshot of the vibrant life bubbling up in our city. I hope my insights inspire you to get out there and experience all the amazing things our 'Brass City' has to offer this April. And remember, you can always follow me for monthly updates on even more community and entertainment events!
