Hey fellow adventurers! If you've just dived into Vintage Story, you're probably feeling both excited and a little overwhelmed – trust me, I've been there! This game is an incredible survival experience, but it definitely throws you into the deep end. As a "Vintage Story Beginner Survival Guide (Part One)," I want to share some crucial tips I picked up on my journey to help you survive those critical first few days. My number one piece of advice? Don't get caught outside at night! The world of Vintage Story is beautiful during the day, but once the sun sets, terrifying creatures called drifters emerge. They are relentless, especially when you're just starting out with no weapons or armor. So, your absolute priority on Day 1 is to find or create shelter. When you first spawn, immediately start gathering resources. Punching trees will give you logs (don't worry, your hands won't break!), and picking up loose stones from the ground is essential. Your first crafts should be a stone axe and a stone pickaxe. Use the axe to chop down more trees for wood, and the pickaxe to mine larger stone deposits. You'll need wood for a campfire and shelter, and stone for basic tools and future crafting. Food is another immediate concern. Keep an eye out for berry bushes; they're an easy, early source of sustenance. Just be careful not to eat poisonous ones! You'll learn to identify them quickly. Hunting animals is possible, but it's much harder without proper weapons. Focus on those berries first. Before dusk, you need a safe spot. A quick and dirty solution is to dig a small 1x2 or 2x2 hole into the side of a hill or even straight down into the ground. Make sure to place a block above your head to seal yourself in. It's not pretty, but it's effective! Once inside, craft a campfire using three logs and some dry grass (which you can gather by hitting tall grass with your bare hands). This will provide light, warmth, and a way to cook any food you’ve found. As you spend your first night safely hunkered down, consider crafting a simple wooden chest. This will help you store your precious resources, keeping them safe from despawning or from being lost if you... well, if you don't survive. Every action you take, like chopping wood or mining stone, contributes to your character's skill progression, which is a core part of the Vintage Story experience. Keep at it, and you'll unlock more advanced crafting and abilities. While exploring, you'll notice various biomes, each offering unique resources and challenges. Don't stray too far from your initial safe zone until you're better equipped. Take things slow, learn the ropes, and remember that every death is a learning opportunity in this incredibly deep survival game. Good luck, and have fun building your epic story!
