Things to Leave in 2024

2024/12/15 Edited to

... Read moreWow, 2024 is already here, and I'm feeling so ready for a fresh start! Like many of you, I've been reflecting on what truly serves my peace and growth. It's not just about setting new goals, but also about consciously deciding what not to bring with us into the new year. I've put together my own list of things I'm committed to leave in 2024, and I hope it sparks some inspiration for your journey too! First up for me is toxic habits and people. This one hits hard, right? It's often tough to identify these dynamics, especially when they're ingrained. For me, it was realizing certain interactions consistently left me drained rather than uplifted. Setting boundaries, even small ones, has been a game-changer. It’s about protecting your energy and recognizing that it’s okay to distance yourself, even from people you care about, if they consistently pull you down. Next, I'm really trying to stop ignoring life lessons and not reflecting on my life. I used to just power through, moving from one thing to the next without much thought. But I've found that taking even just 10 minutes a week to journal about what went well, what challenged me, and what I learned, has been incredibly insightful. It helps me avoid repeating mistakes and truly appreciate my progress. Oh, and endless scrolling! This is a big one for so many of us. I noticed how much time I was losing, and how it often left me feeling more anxious than informed. My goal for this year is to be more intentional with my screen time. I'm trying to replace mindless scrolling with reading a book, going for a walk, or even just sitting in silence for a few minutes. It's amazing how much more present I feel. Then there's ignoring self-care. For too long, I saw self-care as a luxury, something I only deserved if everything else was perfect. But I've learned it's absolutely essential for my well-being. It’s not always about spa days; sometimes it's just making sure I drink enough water, get enough sleep, or say 'no' to something that would overwhelm me. It's about filling your own cup first so you have something to pour into others. Another big one I'm working on is clinging to things and people that don't serve you. This could be anything from old clothes taking up space to friendships that have run their course. Letting go can be scary because it feels like a loss, but I'm learning that making space for new, more aligned experiences and people is incredibly liberating. It's about trusting that what's meant for you will find you. Overthinking everything is a constant battle for me. My mind loves to replay conversations or imagine worst-case scenarios. I've found that mindfulness exercises, even simple deep breathing, really help to ground me in the present moment. When I catch myself spiraling, I try to ask, 'Is this thought serving me right now?' Most of the time, the answer is no! Finally, seeking validation from others. This is a tough one to unlearn. We live in a world where external affirmation often feels like currency. But I’m realizing that true confidence and self-worth come from within. I want to celebrate my own achievements, trust my own judgment, and build a strong sense of self that isn't dependent on likes or external praise. It's a journey, but I'm committed to building that inner strength. These aren't just resolutions; they're commitments to a happier, healthier me. What are you planning to leave behind in 2024? Let’s support each other in making this year our best one yet!
