Daily Devotional: Practicing Kindness
Kindness is often mistaken for something soft or optional, but in truth, it is a reflection of God's very nature. Every act of kindness, no matter how small, mirrors the heart of Christ.
We live in a world where harshness is common. People are quick to judge, slow to listen, and often carry unseen burdens. This is exactly why kindness matters so deeply; it interrupts darkness.
Kindness is not just about how we treat those who are easy to love. It's revealed most clearly in how we respond when it's inconvenient, undeserved, or unnoticed. Anyone can be kind when it's comfortable, but Christ-like kindness shows up when it costs something.
Think about how God has treated you; with patience, mercy, and forgiveness even when you didn't deserve it.
The kindness you've received was never meant to stop with you; it was meant to flow through you.
Practicing kindness is a daily decision.
It's choosing gentle words when you could be sharp. It's offering grace instead of holding grudges. It's seeing people not just for who they are in the moment, but for who they are through the eyes of God.
Today, intentionally practice kindness in at least three ways:
- Speak encouragement to someone who may need it.
- Show patience in a situation that tests you.
- Do something thoughtful for someone without expecting recognition.
Before you respond in any situation, pause and ask: "Is this kind?"
"12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. 14 But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. 15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful." - Colossians 3:12-15
Small acts of kindness can carry eternal impact. Never underestimate what God can do through a willing and compassionate heart.
