Daily Devotional: Open the Door
There are moments in life when we pray for opportunity, for purpose, for God to move. And sometimes, He does; quietly, simply, right in front of us.
A door appears.
It's not always a big, dramatic one. Sometimes it looks ordinary:
- A conversation waiting to happen.
- A moment of silence at the dinner table.
- A nudge in your heart to speak, invite, or act.
But here's the dilemma:
Just because God opens the door doesn't mean we automatically walk through it.
Sometimes we hesitate.
We tell ourselves:
- "What if it's awkward?"
- "What if I say the wrong thing?"
- "What will people think?"
So the door remains closed...not because God didn't open it, but because we didn't move.
Opening the door is often simple obedience in everyday moments.
- At a restaurant:
Bring your Bible. Read while you wait, while you eat, or after your meal is done. You're not performing, your creating space. Someone might notice. A conversation might start. A seed might be planted.
- With a friend or coworker:
When the conversation turns even slightly deeper, don't retreat. Step in. Ask one more question. Share one truth.
- In your daily routine:
That quiet nudge to pray with someone, to encourage, to speak truth; that is often the handle to the door. Turn it.
We can't keep asking God for open doors while refusing to walk through the ones He's already given.
Faith isn't just believing God can open doors. It is trusting Him enough to step through when He does.
You don't have to force anything. You just have to be willing.
God is responsible for what is on the other side of the door. You are responsible for whether you open it.
Ask yourself: What door might God already be placing in front me that I've been hesitant to open?
As we step into the doors God places for us, we may feel hesitation or fear. But we are not called to shrink back, we are called to move forward in faith.
"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” - Joshua 1:9
The door may be in front of you, but you don't walk through it alone. God goes with you, so take the step.
