Daily Devotional; Set Your Mind, Find His Peace
This morning during worship, we spent time in Colossians 3 reflecting on the attitude of a Christian and what it truly means to have peace. One thing became clear...peace isn't something we stumble into, it's something that flows from where we set our minds.
Peace doesn't begin when life settles down...it begins when your heart is set in the right place.
In Colossians 3, Paul doesn't start by fixing circumstances; he starts by redirecting focus:
"Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth."
That's important.
Because most of our unrest comes from living earth-focused lives; thinking about what we lack, what we can't control, or how things should be different.
But the Christian attitude is different.
It's not ignoring reality...it's anchoring your mind in something higher than it.
When your thoughts are fixed on Christ, your identity shift. You're no longer defined by stress, comparison, or fear. You're "hidden with Christ," which means your security doesn't rise and fall with your situation.
That's where peace begins...not in control, but in surrender.
Colossians 3 goes on to show what this looks like practically: putting off anger, bitterness, and harshness; and putting on kindness, humility, and patience.
Peace isn't just something you feel; it's something you live out.
And then comes the key:
" And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful." - Colossians 3:15
The word "rule" here means to act like an umpire...deciding what stays and what goes. When Christ's peace is ruling, it starts calling the shots in your thoughts, your reactions, and your relationships.
So the question isn't just, "Do I want peace?"
It's, "What is ruling my heart right now?"
Today, pause and check your thoughts:
- What has been filling your mind lately: worry, comparison, or frustration?
- Is your focus pulling you toward peace or away from it?
Try this simple shift:
- When a stressful though comes, pause and ask: "Is this from above, or from the earth?"
- Replace it with truth...something rooted in who Christ is and who you are in Him.
Even a small reset can realign your heart.
Peace doesn't come from having everything under control...it comes from letting Christ take control of what's within you.
