Daily Devotional: The Devil's Oldest Strategy
"Has God indeed said, 'You shall not eat of every tree of the garden'?" - Genesis 3:1
When you read the account of Adam and Eve, one thing becomes clear.
They weren't lacking.
God had given them a beautiful garden, meaningful work, perfect fellowship with Him, and access to every tree except one.
One tree.
Yet that one forbidden tree became the focus.
Notice how Satan worked. He didn't begin by attacking God's power. He attacked God's goodness. He subtly redirected Eve's attention away from everything God had generously provided and toward the one thing she didn't have.
Suddenly, abundance no longer seemed enough.
Isn't that still one of his favorite tactics today?
God blesses us with family, health, friendships, opportunities, and countless daily mercies, yet the enemy whispers about the one thing we don't have.
Before long, our gratitude turns into dissatisfaction. Our contentment becomes comparison. Instead of seeing God's blessings, we become consumed with what He has chosen not to give us...or not yet.
Satan rarely has to remove God's blessings. He simply has to distract us from them.
The enemy knows that a heart fixed on what it lacks struggles to rejoice in what it has.
But God's Word continually calls us back to gratitude and trust. Every good gift comes from Him, and what He withholds is just as much an act of His love as what He provides. His boundaries are not meant to deprive us...they are meant to protect us.
Today, don't let the enemy convince you that God's goodness can be measured by what you don't possess.
Instead, pause and remember all that God has already given you. Let gratitude silence the lie that you are missing out.
The devil's strategy hasn't changed...but neither has God's faithfulness.
The enemy doesn't need you to have nothing. He only needs you to forget everything God has already given you.
