Read moreIn many relationships, whether with friends, family, or partners, emotional hurt can be especially damaging when followed by gaslighting—a behavior where the person who caused the pain acts as if they are the one hurt. This manipulative tactic often leads to confusion and self-doubt for the injured party. From personal experience, recognizing this pattern is the first step toward healing. When someone hurts you and then twists the narrative to make you feel responsible, it can impact your self-esteem and trust. It’s important to validate your feelings and not let others rewrite your reality. Setting boundaries and seeking support from trusted individuals or professionals can help you regain clarity. I found that journaling my experiences and emotions helped me separate facts from twisted stories. Over time, I learned to identify red flags, such as denial of wrongdoings and blame-shifting, which often accompany such behavior. Remember, it’s not your fault if someone manipulates you this way. Understanding this pattern empowers you to protect your mental health and foster healthier relationships. If you’re dealing with similar experiences, reaching out to support groups or counselors can provide much-needed guidance and reassurance.
