📍 REXKL, Jalan Sultan, Kuala Lumpur

Hidden inside Kuala Lumpur’s Chinatown is one of the most unique bookstores in the city.

This is BookXcess at REXKL, a bookstore built inside a restored cinema from 1947. The building used to be known as Rex Cinema, one of the most popular movie theatres in Kuala Lumpur before it was damaged by a fire in 2002.

Years later, the space was revived and transformed into REXKL, a creative cultural hub. Today, BookXcess fills the old cinema hall with towering bookshelves, turning it into a maze of books and one of the most photogenic bookstores in Malaysia.

If you’re visiting Petaling Street, this place is definitely worth exploring — whether to read, take photos, or simply enjoy the atmosphere.
