First Apartment❣️

Moving into my first college apartment was such a huge step in 'adulting' after living in a dorm! It’s a mix of exciting freedom and a bit of a learning curve, especially when you’re coordinating with a roommate. Since you guys loved seeing my dorm, I wanted to share some extra tips and thoughts about making that transition and truly building a home in your very first apartment. One of the biggest lessons? Budgeting! When my roommate and I started planning, we realized how quickly things add up. Beyond rent and utilities, there’s furniture, kitchen essentials, and all the fun decor. We found it super helpful to make a shared spreadsheet for expenses and decide what we absolutely needed versus what could wait. Thrift stores and online marketplaces became our best friends for finding unique pieces like that cozy rug for our living room or a stylish mirror for the bedroom without breaking the bank. Decorating shared spaces like the living room and kitchen can be a fun challenge. We tried to find a common aesthetic that we both loved. For our living room, we opted for a neutral base with pops of color and personality through art and pillows. That 'How Lucky Are We' sign above the decorative electric fireplace always makes me smile! For the kitchen, functional storage was key, but adding a cute pink rug and some plants made it feel less sterile and more like 'us.' It’s all about compromise and finding ways to blend your styles – maybe one person loves bright colors, and the other prefers more subdued tones, so you meet in the middle with an accent wall or colorful throw blankets. Our balcony was a game-changer! Having that outdoor space, even a small one, made such a difference. We turned ours into a little oasis with the black outdoor furniture, large potted plants, and lit candles. It became our favorite spot to relax after classes or enjoy a morning coffee. The decorative goose statue wearing its Marshall University jersey also adds a fun, personal touch – adding school spirit really makes a place feel like home, whether it’s through memorabilia or photos. When it came to our individual bedrooms, that’s where we really let our personalities shine. My room is my sanctuary, and I loved picking out every detail, from the white bedding to the nightstand setup. My glass desk area is where I tackle assignments, but also where I get ready, so keeping it organized with a calendar block and small storage is a must. And yes, a yoga mat is essential for those quick stretches! Don't forget the little details that make a big impact. A fun shower curtain in the bathroom, like our delicate floral one, can totally elevate the space. And remember, moving in is a journey, not a sprint. You don't have to have everything perfect on day one. Enjoy the process of building your first home away from home. It's an unforgettable part of the college experience!
